Artist Statement Sylvia Blanco is a Houston-based artist who was born in San Luis Potosi with an enthusiastic eye for detail. Self-taught and still mastering mediums, she is able to find brightness and loveliness in subject matters that are more often considered traditionally dark. Her eclectic style uses themes of: subtle power, love, strength, life occurrences, balance, as well as perseverance. Subject art such as women, animals, flowers, Mexican culture, and skulls, scatter her portfolio. In addition to her personal work, Blanco commissions family and pet portraits, as well as participates in beautifying the City of Houston with murals for local businesses and residences. Blanco has had the opportunity work alongside big name local artist such as Anat Ronen, Gonzo 247, Black Cassidy, Skeez 181, and Alex Ramos. Along with working with these artist, Blanco has recently been nominated as well, Best Visual Artist for The Support Local Music 2018 Awards. A few organizations she has had the pleasure of working with are, The Generators Playground, aerosol warfare, Up Art Studio, The Houston Grand Opera, Museum of Fine Arts - Houston, and Talento Bilingue de Houston.
